Our 4th of July celebration began on Friday the 3rd when Arwen proudly hung her American flag on the front door. The paint was still wet on Arwen's flag when I picked her up from summer school on Thursday. Miss Kay explained that they had practiced drawing lines with rulers to make them.
I had put the artwork on a table in the laundry room to finish drying and almost forgot about it until my brother-in-law Mike came out and asked Arwen if she made the flag. He said it'd make a great postage stamp. Realizing it was dry and now ready to be displayed, I helped Arwen hang it up. She was so proud of her masterpiece, and it looks incredibly sweet on our front door. Makes me smile everytime we pull into the carport.
Rob and Arwen both had the day off, so aside from going to Arwen's swim lesson, we spent the day relaxing at home. When I brought my camera over to show Rob how cute Arwen's flag pictures came out, I caught a shot of these two just cruising on our bed watching a movie.
Later that evening, we met up for dinner with a dear friend, Brian, who was visiting from New Jersey and his girlfriend, Mego, from Taiwan. After a wonderful dinner at one of my favorite restaurants, Phuket Thai, we drove over to Pier 14 to watch the Aloha Tower fireworks show.
Rob parks his tugboat down at this pier, so we got to check it out after the show. While the rest of us were content with looking at the boat from the pier, Brian needed to climb on board to browse.
The 4th began pretty much the same way the 3rd did. A day of kicking back and not a whole lot else. At one point we made our way down to Foodland to pick up some stuff to grill for dinner and proceeded with our day of nothing -- it was nice.
My brother-in-law, Jeff, and his family are in town, and they called to invite us down to his in-laws' for a visit. They live right at the bottom of our hill. The were going to bring out the slip'n slide.
Unfortunately, we couldn't stay for long. We were caught unprepared for the two dogs down at the house that affectionately licked Arwen on the legs while they were playing. With itchy welts from ankle to thigh, we had to rush a very disappointed 5 year old home for a quick shower, allergy meds, and anti-itch cream. Arwen recovered quickly, and Rob fired up the grill for what turned out to be an excellent barbeque dinner.
After dinner, we were pleasantly surprised by a phone call that Jeff and the gang were coming up to the house to watch fireworks. They brought Pop-Its for the kids, though I think the adults had just as much fun with them.
We finished the night off with watermelon and smores for dessert. Yummy!!!!
And we've got leftovers for today! Yay!
